Prophecy of Isaiah 66

Hello Friends,

The prophecy of Isaiah 66 gives us great wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of specific events that will occur before Messiah’s Second Coming. This incredible prophecy is not only the foundation of all of the end of the age prophecies, but it also proclaims in summary, God’s prophetic timeline. Here is the order of events in Isaiah 66.

  1. Messiah’s birth – (Isaiah 66:7)
  2. Israel becoming a nation again – (Isaiah 66:8)
  3. The children of Israel recapturing Jerusalem as their capital – (Isaiah 66:8-9)
  4. Messiah’s Second Coming – (Isaiah 66:14-16)
  5. Messiah’s Millennial Reign on Earth – (1,000 years) – (Isaiah 66:18-21)
  6. The New Jerusalem (Eternity) – (Isaiah 66:22-24)

The 1948 Prophecy

Isaiah 66:8, “Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once?”

Isaiah 66:8 is commonly referred to as the 1948 prophecy, because it is the year that Israel became a nation again (May 14, 1948). This was a major event on God’s prophetic timeline, as it is the foundation prophecy that “opens the door” for all of the other end of the age prophecies to be fulfilled, including Messiah’s Second Coming.

The 1967 Prophecy

Isaiah 66:8-9, “For as soon as Zion (Jerusalem) was in labor, she gave birth to her children. Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the Lord. “Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God.”

Zion is another name for Jerusalem, the holy capital city of the children of Israel (Jews). Once the nation of Israel was “born again” in 1948, the next prophetic event to be fulfilled in sequence on God’s prophetic timeline is the children of Israel’s recapturing of Zion (Jerusalem). Additionally, Isaiah’s prophecy correlates with Psalms 102:16,18, which proclaims the 1967 prophecy, as well!

Psalm 102:16,18, “For the Lord shall build up Zion (Jerusalem); He shall appear in His glory. This will be written for the generation to come.”

The prophet declares that when the Lord builds up Zion (Jerusalem), He will appear in His glory. He continues to state, “this is written for the generation to come.” Keep in mind, this prophecy was written approximately 3,000 years ago, so the “generation to come” is the 1967 generation. In other words, the prophet is declaring that when the children of Israel recapture Jerusalem as their capital, which occurred on June 5-10, 1967, and when the Lord builds up Zion, which has occurred (Hebrew language, science, natural resources, military, medicine (cures for diseases), settlements, desert blossoming like a rose, et cetera), then Messiah will appear in His glory, which is His Second Coming! Now, let us continue with Isaiah’s summarized timeline, as He prophesies of Messiah’s Second Coming.

Messiah’s Second Coming

Isaiah 66:14-16, “When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like grass; The hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants, and His indignation to His enemies. For behold, the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by His sword the Lord will judge all flesh; And the slain of the Lord shall be many.”

After Isaiah prophesies of Israel becoming a nation again (Isaiah 66:8), and also the children of Israel recapturing Jerusalem as their capital (Isaiah 66:8-9, Psalm 102:16,18), he continues God’s prophetic timeline with a prophecy of Messiah’s Second Coming. Isaiah states, “When you see this,” which means when you see Israel become a nation again (1948) and the children of Israel recapture Jerusalem as their capital (1967), “the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by His sword the Lord will judge all flesh; And the slain of the Lord shall be many.”

Assuredly, this is a prophecy of Messiah’s Second Coming, as it correlates with similar descriptions by Zechariah and John the Revelator (Zechariah 14, Revelation 14:14-20, Revelation 19:11-16). Isaiah continues God’s prophetic timeline by proclaiming Messiah’s Millennial Reign on Earth (1,000 years), which is when He will rule from Jerusalem on David’s everlasting throne as the King of Israel (2 Samuel 7, Luke 1:31-33)!

Messiah’s Millennial Reign

Isaiah 66:18-21, “For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles. Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the Lord, “as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites,” says the Lord.” (Also see Micah 4:1-5, Isaiah 2:1-4, Zechariah 14:16-19)

As Isaiah continues God’s prophetic timeline of events, he prophesies about Messiah’s Millennial Reign. Isaiah proclaims, “all nations and tongues shall come to Jerusalem and see the Lord’s glory,” which will occur during the Millennial Reign. Isaiah continues to declare, “the people will come to the Lord’s holy mountain (kingdom), Jerusalem, and they will bring offerings into the house of the Lord, and He will take some of them as priests and Levites.” Isaiah’s prophecy perfectly correlates with Zechariah’s prophecy about the nations who will come to Jerusalem to worship the Lord during the Millennial Reign (Zechariah 14:16-19). Furthermore, the apostle John also confirms Isaiah’s prophecy that some of the people will become kings and priests (Revelation 5:10). Isaiah concludes his summarized prophetic timeline by proclaiming the New Jerusalem, Eternity!

The New Jerusalem

Isaiah 66:22-23, “For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain. And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.” (Also see Revelation 21-22)

Isaiah 66 gives us a summarized prophetic timeline of events that will occur in sequence:

  1. Messiah’s birth – (Isaiah 66:7) – Fulfilled
  2. Israel becoming a nation again – (Isaiah 66:8) – Fulfilled – May 14,1948
  3. The children of Israel recapturing Jerusalem as their capital – (Isaiah 66:8-9) – Fulfilled – June 5-10, 1967
  4. Messiah’s Second Coming – (Isaiah 66:14-16)
  5. Messiah’s Millennial Reign on Earth – (1,000 years) – (Isaiah 66:18-21)
  6. The New Jerusalem (Eternity) – (Isaiah 66:22-24)

As we know, the first three events that Isaiah prophesied about have been fulfilled. So the question is, “What kingdoms and events will occur after the 1967 prophecy and before Messiah’s Second Coming?” Certainly, what will occur in between these prophetic events (1967 Prophecy – Second Coming) are Daniel’s prophesied four kingdoms, which are found in Daniel 2,7, and 8. Now, let us confirm that Daniel 2,7, and 8 are end of the age prophecies that will be fulfilled in between the 1967 prophecy and Messiah’s Second Coming, which is the end of the age.

Daniel 2

Daniel 2:28, “But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days.”

God gave Nebuchadnezzar a “statue dream” of the four kingdoms that will rise to power in the “latter days,” which is an eschatological term for the end of the age.

Daniel 2:44, “And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.”

Daniel proclaims, “in the days of these kings,” which are the four kingdoms that will rise at the end of the age, “the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.” Daniel is clearly prophesying about Messiah’s millennial kingdom during His millennial reign, as it will “stand forever and never be destroyed.” Daniel confirms that Daniel 2 is an end of the age prophecy, because He states that God will set up His millennial kingdom “in the days of these kings,” which refers to the four kingdoms that will rise to power after the 1967 Prophecy and before Messiah’s Second Coming and Millennial Reign.

Daniel 8

As Daniel pondered the meaning and interpretation of the vision in Daniel 8, God’s angel Gabriel told Daniel three times that Daniel 8 is a vision for the end of the age!

  1. “Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end.” (Daniel 8:17)
  2. “Look, I am making known to you what shall happen in the latter time of the indignation.” (Daniel 8:19)
  3. “For at the appointed time the end shall be.” (Daniel 8:19)

Daniel 7

Daniel 7 gives a sequence of events that will occur in exact order at the end of the age, which includes the same four kingdoms as Daniel 2.  So, if Daniel 2 is an end of the age prophecy, then Daniel 7 is, as well. Also, Daniel 7 correlates with Daniel 8, as both prophesy about a “little horn” (Antichrist) that will rise to power at the end of the age. So, if Daniel 7 & 8 prophesy about the same “little horn,” and Daniel 8 is an end of the age prophecy, then we can further confirm that Daniel 7 is an end of the age prophecy!
